I’m not going to do the normal spiel about how long it’s been since the last post, I’ll get better about it, blah blah blah. Life has been busy lately. I just haven’t had the time to sit down and write.
The older I’m getting, the more I am beginning to prioritize my life for the better. Just a few years ago life was all about reaching that next career and financial milestone. And I would hit them. Over and over again. But at the end of the day I was always left unsatisfied. I would never stop to look back at where I’ve come, only looking ahead at what is next to accomplish.
I was setting goals of disappointment. I was losing sight of the important moments and people in my life. Forgetting those who were there from the start, or the struggles and obstacles I’ve overcome.
So over the last few months I have been recovering from a period of depression and taking a closer look at the important things. And a quote struck me and has slowly seeped into my mental outlook on life:
I’ve been so focused on reaching the next milestones that I didn’t realize all the memories and adventures that were going on around me.
I was always under the delusion that adventures only happened in books, movies and games. The transatlantic trips to unknown destinations. Hopping on a plane to see the worlds’ marvels and mysteries.
But that’s not what all adventures are. Adventures are so much more than that. They are the little journeys in life that make everything complete. They are memories, to be held and treasured by those you share them with.
nounnoun: adventure; plural noun: adventures: an exciting or remarkable experience
After some self reflection I have had a lot of adventures in my life, marriage and parenthood being the best ones of all.
I want to start documenting these adventures. Share them and have them in a place that I won’t forget.
My goal is to start carrying my camera with me again, and to start using my journals.
Over the next couple of weeks I am going to start sharing these adventures on our blog. The pictures won’t be outstanding, the excerpts not nearly detailed enough, but all enough to commemorate the experience.
Here’s a little bit of my list of adventures I don’t want to forget:
- Weight Loss
- Buying a Home
- Growing Up
- Day Trips
- Favorite Books
- Favorite Shows
- Favorite Movies
- Career Growth
In addition to these posts I will get back to the core of this blog, which seems to jump sporadically from one place to another. Our family successes and struggles, daily lives, and current news.
My draft list is already filling up. I look forward to getting back to writing. It’s a great release for me personally.
